I specialize in three types of editorial work:
-
Edited Volumes
These collections of case studies provide both depth and breadth for expert audiences.
-
Reports
Aimed at being accessible yet detailed, these reports are frequently read by policymakers, journalists, and specialists. These reports focus primarily on the conduct and consequences of military operations and expenditures.
-
Analysis
Public-oriented writings, these articles seek to explain for informed but not necessarily domain experts. Formats range from long-form pieces to brief op-eds.
What you can expect:
Timely, clear, and fact-checked work on the issues that matter.
Briefs
As an editorial consultant for Brown University’s Costs of War project, I help ensure that reports meet the highest standards for accuracy and objectivity.
Topics covered in these reports include (but not limited to):
Expenditures on military operations
Financial cost of militarized rivalry
US military aid and arms transfers
Humanitarian effects of militarism
Ecological effects of overseas bases
Analysis
In January 2018, I co-founded and launched Manara Magazine, a digital publication dedicated “to foster critical conversations on the Middle East and North Africa region through the voices of established and emerging specialists in politics, international relations, Middle East studies, public policy, sociology and other fields.”
During my time as co-editor-in-chief and as managing editor, Manara (meaning “Lighthouse” in Arabic”) featured the works of diplomats, academics, economists, journalists, and think tankers from not just the MENA region but also East and Southeast Asia, Europe, and North and South America.
By the time of my departure in 2022, we were on track of reach 40,000 unique visitors per year, publishing both quarterly themed issues as well as rolling submissions.
Copyediting
Even if you have the right ideas, they will only be widely accepted if they are presentable. With an eye for detail, I also proofread and provide copyediting services.
